The TESTOMAT project will support software teams to strike the right balance by increasing development speed without sacrificing quality. Solution A tool for prioritizing and automating unit and integration tests. - [ROMAIN PROJECT](https://pre.aleriontec.com/romain-project) ROMAIN ROMAIN DEVELOPMENT OF A ROBOTIC MAINTENANCE SYSTEM FOR WIND TURBINE BLADES ROMAIN Romain aims to develop a complete solution for robotic based inspection and repair of wind turbine blades (WTBs). Firstly, we will integrate thermography and shearography with laser heating, so that advanced lock-in techniques will be achieved for up-tower inspection of both surface and subsurface defects within WTBs. (Current techniques including drone-based are limited to surface defects only). Secondly, a compact and efficient robotic deployment system will be developed which will hold the inspection unit and a robotic repair arm. The robotic system will be operated by engineers working on the ground. When defects are detected and deemed reparable, the repair arm of the whole system will be activated to rapidly repair the faulty area of composite components by resistance welding for joining and/or disassembly. Comparing to the traditional adhesively bonding for repair, the proposed resistance welding with optimised processing would significantly reduce the curing cycles/time with much fewer preparation for surface treatment steps while it will be more easily designed to integrate with robotic arm. The whole system will be operated remotely by engineers working on the ground without high risk exposure to working at height on WTBs. Field trials on wind turbines will be conducted to validate the system. This will allow autonomous missions to be carried out in a reduced time, offering a more efficient technology for operations in marine environments. The project has the following objectives: A precision relative navigation system with autonomous obstacle avoidance and tracing will be developed. Alerion will develop a positioning system based solely on 3D LIDAR that is capable of estimating the position, translation and rotation of the drone with respect to the target. Alerion will implement visual servoing techniques and LiDAR object tracing to carry out relative navigation at close range. A new data fusion will be developed as a complementary aid system to GNSS positioning. So that the drone acquires higher flight precision and also can land precisely in a mobile environment by using IR-UWB technology. Hyperion is Alerion’s drone platform designed for high-performance wind turbine inspections. It is built to improve inspection consistency, data quality and operational efficiency in real field conditions. Its architecture combines inspection-oriented hardware with advanced navigation and flight capabilities, enabling structured and repeatable data acquisition while streamlining field operations. The platform integrates high-resolution sensing technologies, including a 60 MP camera with RTK positioning and LiDAR compatibility, together with onboard processing to support advanced inspection workflows.
